It will be some time before we get our hands on a modernized version of the first Geralt RPG on PC. A release date for The Witcher Remake hasn't been set yet, but developer CD Projekt Red says it will come sometime after the release of the fourth Witcher game, which is currently codenamed Polaris.

The fourth Witcher game, which CD Projekt Red officially announced in March, is being built on Unreal Engine 5. During a recent quarterly call with investors, CEO Adam Kiciński explained that The Witcher Remake will be developed on Unreal 5 and be based "heavily on technology Polaris" and that while both games will be in some sense developed in parallel with each other, there are now plans to use a polished version of Polaris in the remake of the first Witcher game.

“Once Polaris launches, everything for Polaris will be in final form, and it will be, in part, a remake,” Kiciński said.

Of course, a release date for Witcher 4 hasn't been announced either, so we're left wondering when all of this will actually happen - CD Projekt's last major release, Cyberpunk 2077, faced years of delays before launching in late 2020.
