The new Rainbow Six Siege MouseTrap Anti-Cheat is another addition to the game's ever-changing roster of defense systems. Ubisoft is hoping MouseTrap, which is aimed specifically at counterfeiters, will root out some of R6's most annoying cheaters.

Ubisoft states that input spoofing is one of the biggest complaints we receive from our community, acknowledging that it seems really unfair to play against such players when you have such a handicap.

Spoofers fake their location using a variety of tools, allowing them to constantly change their IP address in order to bypass in-game fraud protections. This has been a constant problem for Rainbow Six and online gaming in general, but Ubisoft is convinced they have something that can fix this problem.

MouseTrap is here, a new in-game cheat protection system that helps you determine which players are tampering with the game and when. In particular, it is aimed at those who use the mouse and keyboard to play on the console.

Mid-season, if a player is caught spoofing, the Rainbow Six Siege MouseTrap anti-cheat will start "adding extra latency to their inputs". Ubisoft clarifies that the delay will build up over multiple matches if the player continues to fake data. To get rid of this delay, it is enough to remove the mouse and keyboard and switch to the controller.

Ubisoft emphasizes that it has been working with the internal accessibility team to ensure that only spoofers are affected while allowing the rest of the players to play in peace.

MouseTrap also comes with a new voice chat tracker that will automatically mute abusive players (although you can do so if you want to mute). If you are caught angry in the chat, you will receive a series of warnings followed by a penalty that will last for several matches and will most likely result in a ban if you continue to break the rules.

Rainbow Six Siege anti-cheat

Over the years, Siege has unfortunately become synonymous with hacking and cheating, and in the second half of 2022, there was an incident where hackers showed obscene images using the game's ban channel. Let's hope MouseTrap and the new voice chat system do the job, given that previous anti-cheat systems have been a bit flimsy - although thankfully QB has done some work since reopening in December.

As someone who loves R6, this has inspired me to get back into the game and raise a few heads.
