The trailer plays the song "Larger than Life" by the Backstreet Boys, which is by no means synonymous with horror, but it does have a 90s connection.

The V/H/S series started in 2012 with the title film V/H/S. The idea was simple: a collection of V/H/S cassettes was unearthed, each featuring a new short nightmare filmed by a different up-and-coming director. The original V/H/S had directors such as David Bruckner, Adam Wingard and Ty West. A sequel titled V/H/S/2013 followed in 2, followed by V/H/S: Viral in 2014 and V/H/S/94 in 2021.

The official synopsis for the film reads: VHS 99 takes us back to the last punk rock analog days of VHS while taking a giant leap forward into the hellish new millennium. In film "V / H / S / 99A teen's thirst for home video leads to a series of horrifying revelations.
