Cocaine Bear 2 must be innovative to lead the outrageous plot of the first part, based on the true story of a Tennessee mountain bear who ate several grams of cocaine that fell from a smuggler's plane in 1985, innovation will be required. Director Elizabeth Banks took an incredible concept and created a horror comedy in which she imagined how a bear would react to swallowing cocaine and running into any person it met in the national forest. When Sari (Keri Russell) and her daughter Dee Dee (Brooklynn Prince) unexpectedly find themselves in the path of Sid White (Ray Liotta), who is trying to retrieve the stash, chaotic fun begins.
Banks has already discussed what a Cocaine Bear sequel would be like, and given the film's epic success, a Cocaine Bear 2 is all but guaranteed. The film will have to live up to its predecessor's amount of graphic violence, bizarre characters, and gory deaths, but the way Cocaine Bear ends, it opens up a few possibilities. The film's plot definitely sets up several possibilities for a sequel and could even turn into a Cocaine franchise.
Cocaine Bear 2 should be in the zoo
To be a true follower of the outrageous Cocaine Bear, Cocaine Bear 2 must take place in a zoo. In such an environment, all kinds of wild animals could rage, and various cages would become an ideal environment for bloody death scenes. Lions, tigers and bears on cocaine could provide some truly horrific scenes that could rival the ambulance scene in Cocaine Bear, and the sight of herbivores such as elephants thrashing around would provide additional danger.
Not only would a zoo option be the perfect way to reinforce everything that makes Cocaine Bear special, but it would also help tie the original film into future spin-offs. Since the coke bear and her two cubs are alive and well at the end of the film, they can always be caught by animal control and then transported to a zoo. Perhaps some of the cocaine would go with them, or perhaps Stache would drop a duffel bag into an animal enclosure on his trip to New York.
How Cocaine Bear's ending sets the stage for future spin-offs
Aside from the fact that the Cocaine Bear and her cubs survived and Stache took the duffel bag to the East Coast, the ending of Cocaine Bear sets up many future spin-offs with the fact that there are still bricks of cocaine lying around in the woods. Another drug animal movie after Cocaine Bear makes the most sense, and even if the bear continues to eat cocaine, other forest animals might get a taste for the white powder and start their own killing sprees.
This ending makes you wonder what would have happened if one of the goats had gotten a taste of Stesh's precious cargo, paving the natural path for further cinematic mayhem. Based on the size, species, and temperament of other cocaine-using animals, Cocaine Bear 2 could go in several directions. It would seem impossible for a bear to become addicted to cocaine, but the true story of Cocaine Bear shows that truth is sometimes stranger than fiction, and there may be other cases ripped from the headlines that could serve as inspiration for the next movie.
