Mummy part 4 ready to go out with Brendan Fraser? Before Tom Cruise landed a similar role as part of Universal's failed Dark Universe, Brendan Fraser was, of course, the main protagonist of The Mummy franchise, starring as the heroic Rick O'Connell in The Mummy, The Mummy Returns and The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor from 1999 to 2008. Fraser led these films to huge box office success, a level of success that the Tom Cruise-led reboots have failed to achieve in recent memory.

Now that Dark Universe is gone, where does The Mummy go next? And would Brendan Fraser be interested in returning to play Rick O'Connell once again?

As Fraser's popularity has been rising thanks to a career resurgence in recent years, that's the question Variety asked the actor this week. His answer? He is not opposed to this idea.! I wonder who the other actors in Mummy 4 will be.

I don’t know how it’s going to work,” Fraser told Variety while promoting Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale.” “But I would be open to it if someone came up with the right concept.”

Fraser continues: “It’s very difficult to make a film like this. The ingredient that our Mummy had that I didn't see in the [Tom Cruise] film was fun. This is exactly what was missing in that incarnation. It was too straight forward a horror film. The mummy should be a thrilling attraction, but not terrifying or scary.”

Under Fraser's leadership, The Mummy franchise has been a huge success, with the 1999 film outgrossing the 2017 film, even when not adjusted for inflation. Even the lowest-budget film in Fraser's trilogy, The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, grossed $403 million worldwide. As nostalgia for the trilogy grows, The Mummy Part 4 could be a huge win for Universal.

Never say never…
