Looking for the Soul Collector movie and release date? The title of scariest movie of the year will still be up for grabs in 2024, but it would be hard to pull off a more sinister marketing campaign than the one Neon pulled off for Soul Collector. The psychological horror thriller, written and directed by Oz Perkins, releases one cryptic teaser after another to draw viewers into its twisted mystery revolving around the titular serial killer, played by Nicolas Cage. Today, the indie banner released two new teasers, including a ghostly poster and a short video appropriately titled "Sweet: Part One" and "Sweet: Part Two," offering a look at the film ahead of its release this summer.
Like previous videos, "Sweet: Part Two" doesn't reveal any plot details, but it does feature some new footage that hints at a supernatural presence in Soul Collector. At the center of the plot is an eerie poem that reads: “So close are the raspberries and the clover, everything has gone beyond the edge, where the blackness begins, a long fork-shaped tongue hisses.” Between each line, the screen flashes with intense scenes of murder, shadow demons and a woman with bloody hands, and then the screen shows FBI agent Maika Monroe Lee Harker looking into the mirror. She appears to be at a loss as the letters from the poem disappear to spell Soul Collector and the final line appears, appearing to refer to her as "Daughter of the Seventh She".
Rising star Harker is assigned to investigate the case of the eponymous serial killer. As she delves deeper into the mystery, a myriad of twists and turns are revealed that not only point to the presence of the occult, but also form a personal connection with Harker. When a killer prepares to attack another innocent family, the agent must quickly piece together all the clues before the tragedy happens again. The teaser also says of Harker, "Ever since she was a little girl, she's wanted to catch a killer."
The Collector of Souls continues to intrigue with its progress
The Soul Collector movie generates curiosity for its release, especially given the relative lack of plot details. Perkins is also a skilled performer behind the camera, given his past experience working on Gretel & Hansel and another terrifying thriller, February. Even in a crowded horror year that includes Abigail, Nosferatu, and another NEON film called Cuckoo, Monroe and Cage's film is one to keep an eye on ahead of its release.
Soul Collector opens in theaters on July 12.
