horror game Steam The Chant brings together the mystical intrigue and interpersonal drama of Life is Strange, the "mysterious cult gone wrong" vibe of folk horror film Midsommar, and the tense third-person adventure game styles of games like Resident Evil, The Evil Within, and The Last of Us. Best of all, you can play it right now.

When Jess and Kim travel to a distant spiritual island for a peaceful weekend, you...well, to be honest, you know exactly what's going to happen. And it happens like this; reckless group singing opens a portal to the Darkness, "a psychedelic dimension of horror fueled by negative energy". You'll have to fight terrifying cosmic horrors, negotiate with other survivors, and try to research the history of the 1970s cult in an attempt to undo the ritual before it consumes everyone on the island.

The Chant features third-person melee combat against a range of strange and disturbing monsters of all shapes and sizes, but also gives you access to a range of "spiritual weapons and abilities" to take on your enemies. You will have to keep an eye on resources that will help you create tools that will give you a better chance of survival and find a balance between your mental, physical and spiritual state through the character upgrade tree.

А gameplay demo by developer Brass Token showcases some of the game's various puzzle and crafting systems, how players can use various melee tools and traps to exploit enemies' weaknesses, and how Jess can use the power of Gloom against the monsters she faces. You will branch out across the island from the camp that acts as your hub, and interact with other residents as you progress. Brass Token says the dialogue choices you make and the secrets you reveal will "ultimately determine how your story ends."

The Chant is available now Steam and offers some additional bonuses for collectors, including the game's original soundtrack composed by Paul Raskay, an art book, and a 70s-inspired costume and visual filter.
