Are you interested in a game that is similar to Hotline Miami? You, like us, are lucky because Kusan City of Wolves has been released. Hotline Miami remains one of the best PC games of all time. Vibrant, violent, surreal and stylish, the combination of neon gore and dance music creates a head-turning aesthetic unlike any other top-down game. Hotline Miami 2 was a worthy sequel, but with the retro '90s revival and indie hits like Dusk, Turbo Overkill, and Cultic, the shooter genre became defined by variations on Doom, Quake, and Half-Life. Hotline Miami 3 may never happen, but a new independent 2D indie game is getting very close. It's Kusan City of Wolves, available to play today, and it almost feels like a new Hotline Miami game.

Fast-paced, bloody, and incredibly clever, Kusan City of Wolves is a game that you only have to look at to see its similarities to the acclaimed 2012 indie game Dennaton. It's Hotline Miami with a playful, almost anime-like twist. As an anthropomorphic, cigarette-smoking, sunglasses-wearing Doberman dog, you must protect a girl who has the power to destroy the eponymous Kusan. The game takes place in a fictional Korea in the near future, and you will have to act quickly, shoot accurately and spill barrels of blood to save the life of your ward.

Sure, there are guns in the game—lots of guns—but your arsenal also includes swords, knives, and a robotic arm that can be upgraded as you progress. The second Kusan City of Wolves playtest, created by independent developer CIRCLEfromDOT, opens today, Friday, January 12th, and runs until Friday, January 26th.

In it you can go through the entire first chapter, consisting of five different stages. If you've been missing Hotline Miami and want some more stylish, angry, top-down action with a cyberpunk twist, you might want to check out Kusan right away here.
